Forgive and forget
Easy to say if you haven’t been violated in some way.
Forgiving is easier than forgetting, even though our memories of dreadful events are never 100% accurate, which is a good thing indeed.
If we dont speak of unspeakable things then the perpetrators of unspeakable things will continue to behave unspeakably.
Forgive, forget
they say it lightly,
as though no wound
ever left a scar,
as though betrayal
vanished with the dawn.
Forgiving ….maybe
perhaps the heart can bend,
find a quiet corner
to release the weight.
But forgetting?
The mind remembers
in echoes and shards,
fractured truths
that cut even duller with time.
And yet, silence
dangerous silence
is the soil where harm
takes root again.
If we never name the shadows,
they will walk unchallenged,
their footsteps heavy,
their hands repeating
what was never undone.
So speak.
Even of the unspeakable.
Let words be the stones
that break the cycle,
let naming be the light
that robs the darkness
of its power.
Forgiveness is choice.
Forgetting is myth.
But telling
telling is survival.

This whole thing speaks the truth. That last stanza is spot on Peter.;))
