it’s not lost on me
the irony
as I gaze out the window
at a landscape thick with fouled air
unsafe for me to breathe
I see the destruction and the debris
carnage lying in the street
celebrating a birthday
while the recipient is on the deathbed
seems wildly inappropriate
but not unexpected
it comes from both sides
for different reasons
those who still retain hope
perhaps the patient can still be revived
and those who think only with hatred
and haven’t even noticed
the patient is barely alive
life support can only do so much
if the toxins aren’t removed
death is inevitable

hello lovely Willow a very powerful metaphor employed here ❤️
I don’t know why these comments are only showing up now for me. I had forgotten about this one. Thank you, Brenda 🧡
Powerfully penned, Willow. Another excellent write with many layers my friend. The last line is the hammer driving the nail home. Amazing read as always. I’ll throw some more wood on the bonfire. Appreciate you.

For some reason the comments for this one only just showed up, even though I see they were posted a while ago. Thank you, brother, these are trying times and more wood is always helpful for the bonfire
