ANATOMY OF A LOSS (4)

Tell me it isn’t true,
or at least let’s pretend for now?
It’s too big; too awful
as my life now stretches impossibly before me.
If I can’t be with her,
what am I supposed to do?
It’s too hard being left behind,
dealing with all of the rubbish.
I want things to be neat and linear;
for my thoughts to organise themselves logically
and to negotiate this path bravely,
gracefully, with dignity.
Instead, it’s an ugly, chaotic mess;
chores piling up and people dropping away
as my tears splash into the void.
