An Autumn Moon Night

“Gonna get into it baby

down where it’s tangled and dark…

When we get through it baby

you’re gonna give up your heart.

Gonna get a little risky baby

Oh, that’s my favorite part.”

~~Bonnie Raitt

oooo

When I first saw you

the moon was full,

 a chill in the air

could be seen on your breath

and your playful laugh

was high lighted in the street lights.

It was a perfect Autumn moon night.

oooo

Maybe it was the way

your open coat swayed as you walked

revealing creamy, low cut skin.

Or, your dark hair

was mussed by the night air

and whispered,

“Come to me

let’s explore the sultry songs of night.”

Or perhaps it was

how the moon’s shadow moved your hips

enticing my eyes to follow.

But as you wandered

a late October breeze

scattered multi-colored leaves

across your path

adding to your mystery,

adding to the Autumn night

and your smiling lips

when you realized

I couldn’t resist.

oooo

In the distance

I could hear music,

it sounded like

falling leaves,

sweet and reddish,

yellow and October orange.

It sounded sultry,

brownish and reminded me

of how you said,

“gonna get a little risky baby,

Oh, that’s my favorite part.

Gonna give up, gonna give up

your heart.”

It was a song you had heard

with horn parts

that blew sunset orange.

Listen to that horn

blowing me down to where it’s

tangled and dark;

blowing me down to where

you are more than

shadow and dark;

blowing me into your mystery

and the Autumn night.

oooo

It was Autumn,

the moon was full,

and I followed you

into your moonlit night.

It was worth any risk

to feel your fingers caress my lips,

to have your arms pull me close,

to get lost in your seasonal scent.

oooo

It was Autumn

baring us like youthful trees

and we fluttered down,

down to where it was warm,

tangled,

 and dark.

Down to where we lost our hearts.

While outside,

a risky wind blew

and hornful notes sang songs

to the Autumn night.
