Summary:
On a sweltering summer morning, a man seeking relief in a quiet lake is dragged into an ancient abyss beneath the water and returned to shore no longer human, but the herald of an eldritch awakening.
Canvas tents shimmer
A fervent morning
Suffocating heat
Chorus of laughter
Friends withdraw from sight
The lake gestures him
Shed upon the shore
Cosmic stillness fell
Melding with the deep
Drawn beneath the surge
Silence bows his ribs
Hope withers to gloams
Shrouded within gloom
Sunken deities
Shroud and essence reft
Epochs dawn devoid
Remembrance festers
Morphosed thing become
On the outer shore
Hands pull back to light
Scared hands drag to land
Dire hands compress
A ruined thing gasps
Ash-pale fingers curl
A dark wears the flesh
Flesh-gone wax sloughs free
Nightmares rack mortals
Thrashing knots of scree

This was a fun one to write. It’s made up of haikus and I wanted to play around with its structure to kind of invoke a slight sense of madness when reading it. Hopefully people like it.
