    Leave On Sunday Morning

Lyric writing sessions used to be key when it came to songwriting. The purpose for us was to always have stockpiled lyrics on hand when we’d enter a jam session/band practice. We’d have words to pull from to attempt...

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mary. So glad you like these stories my friend. It’s therapeutic for me, helps me understand where the wheels fell off at certain points in time. My first portrayals of Joey G, were always in a negative light. Guess I was still mad, still am sometimes. But as I dug deeper I realized I couldn’t tell an accurate story without showing some good times every now and then. Little glimpses where we got it right, even if only for a bit. Appreciate you.

    • Your stories are always intriguing and in depth. Nice description here about your past.

Backstage (Black Sabbath - The Song That Changed An Album)

Welcome Backstage, I’m Damian DeadLove. Tonights band has a very interesting story on writing a song that far exceeded expectations of what it’s initial purpose was. I’m talking about Britain’s own, Black Sabbath.  Often credited as one of the forefathers...

    • That’s super fascinating history, Damian. I don’t really follow Black Sabath, but I am familiar with that particular tune. I’m stunned that Ozzy never wrote lyrics. The dude was super fortunate to hang around people who did.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, DK. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. He attempted to write a few lyrics, but they were never standout lyrics. Plus he was fortunate enough to have guys around that could write lyrics. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Sabbath is one of the most influential bands on earth. Whether you like Ozzy or Dio or Tony Martin, All of their line ups are special. Except the last album they did titled “13”. That’s pure shit!!
Nice work here Damian. Your a talent..Truly.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. I agree, each lineup had its appeal. “13” was not that great. Especially when in comparison with the last record they did with RJD. Under the “Heaven & Hell” moniker. That was a killer album. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • I never knew that about Ozzy. I always loved how unapologetic he was. He was just being him and that is that.

      Great write

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Nick. So glad you liked the story my friend. Yeah, he attempted writing lyrics a couple of times. He’s no Geezer Butler. However he did write the vocal melodies. I’m a fan of him, that’s just the facts when it comes to what he contributes to songwriting. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • So another case of the unexpected stealing the show & in this case, saving the day! Maybe record labels should start letting the music makers do their thing & see much it nets their infamous gawdawful bottom line. Gah…another intriguing story, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. Very true, but the business men and bean-counters think they know best. It’s always up to the talent to save the day. There are more to come my friend, glad you love the series. Appreciate you.

    • That was amazing. I love the growly voice. Damian;))

      • Thanks so much for reading/listening and your kind words, Fia. So glad you liked the write and performance my friend. The growl was the only thing vocally I never questioned myself about. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Tremendous work. You nailed it.

    • Cool idea with the vocals and the words are killer. Nice job Damian.

      • Thanks so much for reading/listening and your kind words, Keith. So glad you enjoyed the piece my friend. Yeah, it was a way to incorporate with the death growl. Which I thought went well juxtaposed to the spoken part. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • I’ve always enjoyed the voices that have gravel in their DNA. This is a little different for you but still 100% you. And brilliant! Love seeing all the facets in different light, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading/listening and your kind words, Willow. So glad you enjoyed the performance my friend. It took me almost 15 years to be comfortable enough to share these pieces. I have three more, but I can’t find the words to them. lol. I was not in the best place in those recordings, I was drinking like a fish, which makes sense being that I’m a Pisces. lol. But it was different, because I was different. I was not the person I am now. But I’m not afraid to be me anymore, so why sit on the material. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Damian!!! Oh Damian, this is….. Wow, it’s not often I’m rendered speechless. I like the transition from your voice to the death growl. Very masculine, very sexy. It’s like that old saying, “two sides of the same coin” I think that applies here…maybe, lol. Same person, two different sides of him but they have the common goal of being released. The death growl was the cherry on top of this beautiful piece. I applaud you my friend! xx

      • Thanks so much for reading/listening and your kind words, P.G. So glad you enjoyed this piece. It does have a, Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde kinda vibe. Glad you loved the growl, very cool. At one time in history it was kinda frowned upon by the masses to death growl growing up. Times change or so they say. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Very impressive, Damian. I really like your voice and the lyrics were perfect.

    • Great ink. It had a great flow.

    • Damian, I really enjoyed this write. This isn’t talked about enough. Thank you for sharing. xx

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, P.G. So glad you enjoyed the write my friend. You’re most welcome. I bring up a lot of things like this or exactly this. But if I don’t leave it be at times, it would drive me crazy. Appreciate you.

    • Damn, you were right. It’s speaks for itself. Like a hammer to the head & a dagger to the heart. Breaks the heart & staggering the mind how many have chosen hate… Another one that’s gonna have my mind going, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I think some always had hate in their heart, their cult leader made it ok to express it. It’s simply maddening that some people can’t or choose not to see through the con. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Excellent commentary on the times.
I wanted to quote but then realized it’d be the whole vibe.
      Definitely one for the books!!

      Much respect

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Naaj. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Cool that it was one for the books. Appreciate you.

    • Cool they merged and ended up with a hit. Like the collabs that happen with poet’s. ;)) Enjoyed this Damian

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. Yeah, at the end of the song while playing the New Mother Nature riff, While the singer Cummings did his part, Bachman as a backing vocal part started re-singing the first verse of, No Sugar Tonight. It’s a cool effect as if you heard the first song then the second one and then both merge. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Great fucking act! This band and BTO deserve way more respect then they get. They were one of the biggest names in Canada. I’ll listen to them over Triumph or April Wine. Informative write.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. Yeah, who is Canada’s biggest rock band? I don’t know that anyone is bigger than, Rush. What do you think? Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • And you finally hit on a band I’m not familiar with…although I know the song American Woman. I always find it fascinating when the people overrule the industry. Wouldn’t it be great if music wasn’t spoon fed by the industry telling us what to like? Many “unknown” tracks on big albums turned out to be my favorites. Awesome that they made it work! Another great story, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. They look at it as checks and balances, and their precious bottom line. The business side is the underbelly. The Bee Gee’s & Chic were playing R&B you could dance to. Disco blows up, and they make them poster boys for that movement. Because of business, they oversaturate the music market, and they keep pushing it till people don’t wanna hear it anymore. Or a Decade ends. It’s all about profit, unfortunately. Sorry for the rant. You like what they call the “Deep Cuts” the songs not meant to be singles. I’m the same way my friend. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Dear D,

That was awesome. Each title mentioned in this write I would start singing the refrain in my head. I’m so glad you’re carrying on this series of writes about these musicians. They’re so interesting and your writing of them is captivating. H🌷

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, H. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. Glad you like the series, yeah I love telling music stories. Thanks so much for your support. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you enjoy the stories my friend. That’s really cool, that you got to open for them. It was probably like the band, “Yes” Chris Squire was the only original member left in the group until his death. Now they tour with no original members. It’s like all the replacements took over the band. Appreciate you.
