I’m glad you asked.
I liked it because it reminded me of me, though I don’t have any imaginary friends.I liked it even more because it revealed another side to Paula.A softer,more introspective,less brutalized and probably more honest Paula.
Of course, I could be totally wrong,it could be another fictional piece from you…..

European cinema when this was made followed no rules. The American audience of today would cringe and have a seizure watching horror from Europe during the 70’s & 80’s. Watch the film. It will answer all of your questions. Happy Halloween

Look up the documentary called Cropsey. It’s a true story about a guy named Andre Rand who worked at a notorious state school that was supposed to take care of children with mental disabilities called Willowbrook. Instead, through corruption, it allowed them to be abused in the worst way.
