    Light Fades To Black

    • I don’t know when we let it start but it is not going away any time soon no matter how many get hurt.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. As far as I’ve been able to piece together it’s been building for decades, subtle things at first, now not so much. All that’s left is hope and that is what they’re trying to kill. So I guess it’s up to people to keep hope alive. Appreciate you, cuz.

    • Much needed words Damian 🙏🏻

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Drieks. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

    • And here I thought this was going to be a Metalicca tribute…
I dunno dude, America is pretty messed up and confused by a lot of things. I don’t even try to understand most of the craziness coming from all sides. The aggression and violence, and antagonism’s and instigating is so rampant. I don’t see any solutions either, in any of it all.
Thankfully we can chill within our creative worlds and that helps us deal with it.
Your write is spot on. Bravo.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mark. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Sorry for throwing you off into thinking it was going to be a Metallica tribute. lol. I guess all we can do is what writers do, write our observations down and share them, and try our upmost best to keep some form of hope alive. I don’t know that anyone person has the answer to the world’s problems, so I just keep moving forward brother. Appreciate you.

    • Damian. Your social commentary is spot on here. Your message is clear and your voice is loud & intelligent.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. Glad you connected with the write my friend. I’m glad the message is clear, brother. Appreciate you.

    • Thank you for voicing something that’s been on my mind for quite sometime now. I had a title in mind but your piece has influenced me. Wonderful work sir. Let’s be the voice for the voiceless.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Wally. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Glad I could influence you brother, yes a voice for the voiceless. Appreciate you.

    • Sigh…where to begin? I’m really late in arriving to this piece and it’s going to take me a while to catch up again. This is such a solid expression of the insanity taking place these days. And as more has occurred since the writing of this, it doesn’t appear to be ending. What we can take and hold as hope is that my fellow Minnesotans said fuck the tyranny and stepped up. Not in violence, but in peaceful protest and consistently showing up. The intent of the regime was to instill enough fear and chaos immediately to cower everyone quietly into their assigned boxes. That didn’t happen. They chose a winter people in their hibernation season. Wake the bear…deal with the repercussions. They’re Vikings, for fuck sake! We do outnumber the guns and the bullies. That’s something to hold on to, my friend.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I’m just glad to see you back in my comments. lol. You’ve been missed around here my friend. I did write this one for your fellow Minnesotans. It isn’t smart to provoke Vikings in their hibernation season, I agree. It’s all a revenge tour for this cult and their wicked heartless leader. Unfortunately they’re far from done, up to us writers to keep the bonfire lit. Just doing my best to keep up. It is something to hold on to. Appreciate you.

    • The Basic Law states that human dignity in inviolable. But dignity, physical and mental health have long since become the playball of abuse of power and corruption. Very well expressed. Powerful writing dear Damian!

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Elke. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I agree with you 100%, you hit the nail on the head. Appreciate you.

    • I hate corruption. Seems that it’s becoming more obvious with no one taking charge. Awesome piece dude!

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It’s the only thing besides hate and cruelty that they are transparent about. Appreciate you, brother.

    • When reality warps, the shapeshifters ascend as keepers of the shifting veil.
Only those who guard the ancient flame of truth withstand the empire of forgetting.
      Great words Damian.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, PAR. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Nice commentary brother, you’re a wordsmith. Love it! Appreciate you.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, HJ. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Wish it wasn’t the case, but unfortunately it’s quite terrifying indeed. Appreciate you.

    • Damian this poem brings light to everything that is going on. Really good cuz.

    • This reads like a warning flare shot straight into the dark.
The anger is focused, and the clarity makes it hit harder.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Thomas. So glad you connected with the write my friend. That’s what I was going for brother. Appreciate you.

    • I literally sat on my hands for a minute so I didn’t launch into immediate rant. The whole purpose of their actions is multifold, I think. First and foremost, create fear and stir up animosity and hatred. Second, fill their privately owned concentration camps for free labor. And third, though definitely not least, continue the trafficking started by the big name these days. These people need to be stopped, prosecuted and locked away forever. Powerful, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I’m 100% on board with that assessment. Their actions are definitely multifold I agree. I seen something on project 2026, it pretty much picks up where 2025 left off. It even had floor plans for the concentration camps, they’re trying to build the 4th Reich in my opinion. Appreciate you.

I can clearly understand your excellently expressed words, dear Damian. Such songs can trigger an endless loop of depressing thoughts. But they hold also the potential to make us aware of the shadows in our soul and help us to heal them.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Elke. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I too, like that line. You are correct in your assessment, in this instance this one leans towards the latter. Thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

    • There’s nothing worse than past regrets. If we could only get it right the first time it would alleviate so much. But life doesn’t allow it. Sad but true. Good one, Damian.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It would save a bunch of heartache to get it right the first time but life kinda gets in the way sometimes. Appreciate you.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Naaj. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Truth tellers of the past often inspire new truth tellers. That’s just my opinion though. Much respect to you sir. Appreciate you.

    • This hits with the weight of memory that refuses to soften, each line carrying its own ache. I love how the poem lets the past speak plainly—no sugar, just the raw residue of living.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Thomas. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Thank you for your continued support brother, really means a lot to me. Appreciate you.

    • Oh the layers in this one. It’s interesting how old songs can take us back to a moment and it’s fresh again, but we’re able to look at it through the eyes of hindsight. That’s where regret comes into play. Without hindsight, we don’t know there’s anything to regret. I sit with old tunes sometimes just to remind myself where I am, because of where I’ve been. And then I change the music and carry on. It’s all we can do. But those old ones… Feeling this one, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Music definitely can take you back in time and without hindsight I agree there would be no regret. Great job deciphering the layers. It also adds more layers when I helped write and arrange some of those old tunes. Some guy once said: “Music is the soundtrack of our lives.” He might be on to something. lol. Appreciate you.
