    The Key

When did you get the key to my door

It’s been locked for so long

I remember when I put the bolt and nail it to the floor

Fear and hurt infused the metal like a song

    You inserted a key

    Turned it to the right

    I stood before you

    I the softest moonlight

    You really looked at me

Realizing what I was wearing you see

    Your over sized white tee

That fit like a dress on me

    Tonight there is no locks

    There are no doors

    There is only power

I feel as my hand reaches for yours

There is another key within the man

To fit in a lock that others could not open

    Anticipation that married with fear

If I let you in..will you stay near

    On sheets of lost hopes

    A drumbeats in my core

    Gentle fingertips strokes

Slicking the lock of my door

Eyes sizing if entrance will be allowed

Mind racing concerned that he will stop now

The press of the key made other thoughts form

Will the key fit in a lock that weathered a solitary storm

As if the door could not hold the bolt in place

The key fully inserted taking time to adjust to the space

A slow turning, and angled just right

The door finally opened to the key that night.

The story does not end with the key in the door

I’ll let your mind wonder as the sounds hit a crescendo vibrating possibility
