Backstage (Van Halen - The Reunion That Never Happened)

Welcome Backstage, I’m Damian DeadLove. The year was 1996, September 4th to be precise. I’m watching the MTV awards show for some reason, I’ve never been huge into watching the award’s ceremony. Not even for live performances, mainly because...

    • I remember that moment. And yeah, it is such a lose to the music industry with Eddie gone. It reminds me of something Doyle from the Misfits said. Something like the music industry is the only industry where people can’t get along to make millions of dollars.

      Great ink

      • The Misfits are one amazing act! Great reference!!

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Nick. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. It’s very true, some put aside their hate to make money. Very few times has someone said, “I fucking loathe this motherfucker so much, there isn’t a paycheck big enough.” lol. Appreciate you.

    • Great piece of writing Damian. Never enjoyed VH’s music. DLR or Sammy Hagar. It doesn’t matter to me. What does matter is this piece you wrote. Deep, intriguing and full of some fun facts. Backstage is one great idea my friend.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. Even though you’re not a fan of the band. Appreciate you.

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mary. So glad you liked the story my friend. Memories, are something I have in abundance. There will be more. Appreciate you.

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you connected with the story my friend. Loved “Me Wise Magic” and “Can’t Get This Stuff No More.” were both great songs. Mike was always the anchor on backing vocals. DLR, often referred to him as the, Art Garfunkel, of the band. lol. Ed, went through a rough time for sure with addiction. Like you said he did clean up though, and turned his life around. They were great with, Hagar. But I’ll always be a Roth guy. I loved them both as solo artists as well. Actually I sometimes prefer Sammy on his own. Appreciate you.

    • I’ve heard both incarnations of Van Halen. I’m a DLR era girl myself. Different energy. Oddly enough, I enjoyed Hagar solo better than in Van Halen. I could never quite reconcile that innocent boy face on Eddie with the incredible fucking skill he blasted out of his guitar. Damn. Those were good days & great tunes. Thank you for taking us back, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. I’m a DLR guy, obviously. lol. There were good songs in the Hagar era, but it was a different vibe. Hagar, is better solo. Especially some of the albums after he got kicked out of VH. Ed always had that grin, usually because he was drinking, he never did it as often when he was sober. You’re welcome, always love to reminisce about music. Appreciate you.

    Her Warmest Embrace

Spilling ink just to get through the night Distorted thoughts rising to the surface Sweetest muse marks me with her bite Bringing desire and stoking my furnace   Sharing visions that bring a truthful urge Wading in darkness while walking upright Not knowing which version will...

    Leave On Sunday Morning

Lyric writing sessions used to be key when it came to songwriting. The purpose for us was to always have stockpiled lyrics on hand when we’d enter a jam session/band practice. We’d have words to pull from to attempt...

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mary. So glad you like these stories my friend. It’s therapeutic for me, helps me understand where the wheels fell off at certain points in time. My first portrayals of Joey G, were always in a negative light. Guess I was still mad, still am sometimes. But as I dug deeper I realized I couldn’t tell an accurate story without showing some good times every now and then. Little glimpses where we got it right, even if only for a bit. Appreciate you.
