And There’s The Rub it would appear that by some   kind of accident .. I somehow discovered things about you that still frighten me and fall far beyond poetry and all that I love or hold   so dear .. now though, I hear you wear your hair at least shoulder   length and loose...

    War in the Dirt

At the foot of Cyclone Hill, the drama played out. On one side, there were US soldiers; gritty, seasoned veterans of the second world war, and on the other side were cowboys, including Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Hopalong Cassidy...

    • This is so light-hearted, and the innocence of watching children play is sweet. Now the sister swooping down had me laughing. This is a fun read.

    • Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I used some pretty old cowboy and super hero names, so don’t feel bad if you didn’t recognize them.

    • As a sister looking for someone to play with while my brother is off having fun with his friends, I can say with glee I was the demon in pink boots, lol. Childhood nostalgia at its best. Great piece, Sam!

    • I know I’ve said it before but you really are the master of this writing genre Sam .. This one as always made me chuckle no end .. Write on my friend .. Neville 😎👍

    • Once you accept “self” the candle of time, flickers bright.

    • Through a repetition to our unconscious mind, we become our own worst enemies. We talk ourselves into defeat and fall into a slot that we can’t get out of even though we know it’s erroneous information.

If I leave my keys in a certain spot for a month, when I lose them I’ll find myself constantly going back to that spot even though I know they’re not there. It’s that constant repeating I previously did that sticks. It’s the same way with self confidence and self talk.

      Good one, Damian.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I agree we are our own worst enemies sometimes. I also get what you mean by the constant repeating as well. Appreciate you.

    • “If sanity doesn’t break it has to bend”

Never has a statement rang more loudly and clearly with fact than that one. We’re learning to adjust what we once deemed impossible…to be unjust but still happening. If we pay too close attention, it risks breaking us. If we don’t pay close enough attention, it will take us unaware. We’re walking a tightrope of razor blades these days. I’m finding it necessary to keep my loved ones in constant contact. The comfort of the familiar is a dangerous thing because this reality snuck up on us in a bum’s rush and tackled us flat on our asses. Bend, my friend. I got your back if you need to rest

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. That was one of my favorite lines as well. You’re spot on again, it’s the conundrum of finding balance in remaining aware without breaking one’s sanity. It is a tightrope of razor blades, because this regime always floods the zone with so much bullshit. It’s impossible to keep up on a daily basis. That is by design to avoid any kind of accountability on their part, incompetence is their Achilles heel it would seem. Nice to know you got my back. Appreciate you.

    • A brilliant poem, dear Damian! I can absolutely relate to it
We are ourselves greatest enemy. Damned self doubt has never helped anyone, it only blocks our power to take action and stay true to our own opinion.

    • Tim….there isn’t much anyone can do to get democracy back to its original intention.Still, if we don’t keep writing about it,as you have here, then who will?
The old adage, ‘you get the government you deserve’ seems to playing out across all western democracies but especially so in USA where only money matters.
It’s taken a long time for the dollars and the bastards to get absolute power…they will never surrender it.
I’m still smiling and won’t let them grind me down.
      Cheers mate.

    • Thank you for speaking true and honest words in a world attacking the foundations of democracy more than ever before, Tim¡

      • Hey Elke. Thanks so much for the comment. I keep getting this feeling like Trump is not going to finish his term. We’ll see.

    • Pretty much whatever they say to get elected is bullshit. All are guilty, too. There is no good politician in the higher echelons. I guess they can’t really be anymore. Too much chaos in all parties and at all desks. And yes, money is the controller.
We can hope for improvement all we want. There will never be, again. Just less bad, if we are lucky.

      Well delivered message, Tim.

    • Sharp teeth in a suit, and still the poem doesn’t flinch—love how you chew the rot of politics without losing your voice.
The grit of truth bites, but you carry it kindly, like a warning whispered in a smoky bar.

    • Tim, you wrote the reality of the rot that is infecting America and much of the world with penetrating clarity and articulated poetically the shroud we are enveloped in. Truly a great poem about our dark time.

      John
