(A Story in Five Limericks)
As the rain drops slide down my windowpane
I see a figure stuck in the storm drain
Like tears falling from the sky
I can almost hear its cry
A lonely shoe is trapped weeping in pain
It whimpers like it’s missing its sole mate
They both swore they would never separate
Now it lies cold in the street
Remembering stinky feet
Ever since before their factory date
It recalls the days when they were first made
A fusion of rubber, leather and suede
And somehow one just got tossed
Cold, alone, scared and so lost
But no one is coming to the shoe’s aid
In the storm an old shoe is shivering
Life slowly fading away, slivering
Remembering every mile
How cool they once were with style
Now in the concrete pavement quivering
The lonely shoe is covered in debris
Caught in a storm drain with leaves from a tree
In the rain the pain is voiced
Like a wet ghost who’s most moist
While you think “Eww…how is this poetry?
