The Beauty of Imperfection

HomePoetryThe Beauty of Imperfection
Summary:
Recently, during a group discussion, I was asked how 'someone like me, of all people' could possibly know anything about neuroplasticity. I felt deeply hurt. As is so often the case, writing helped me process and cope with this blatant disregard.

I am a defective copy, a dead stock

A discontinued model, a shelf-warmer

Disability – a blessing and a curse

And I am in the best of company

Hephaestus laughs and limps away

Mobility-impaired god, son of Hera

Creator of great artworks and tools

Imperfection: birthplace of creativity

I walk in the footsteps of Teiresias

Guided by my intuition and inner eye

I see things I’m not supposed to see

Clàirvoyance is my gift from the gods

The healing power of compassion

A precious lesson of my disability

Kintsugi: repairing with the gold of love

To underline the beauty of imperfection
