a purple winter night

HomePoetrya purple winter night

In a hotel room far from here
there was a perfect version of you and me
we ate instant noodles
and looked out at the purple winter skyline

You let me talk and talk and talk
and for one night I was free
from the shackles of my mind

I held that memory like a beacon
until the day you used it against me
and with a handful of words
you shattered the illusion I’d held for years

There was no perfect version of you
nor a perfect version of me
just a lovely idea
of what it was to be seen without judgement
only to find out you were embarrassed by me
all along

    1. I remember writing once “images of you and me never equal any semblance of we.” This caught my breath and took me back to that moment. I agree with Fia, those last lines are powerful and painful.
