There is a path worn into the carpet
Slight discoloration after constant pacing
Pitch-black sky like a starless tarpit
War is raging with this demon I’m facing
He calls my bluff about fearing death
With insults meant as a means to kill me slow
Spit in his eye while holding my breath
Heat rapidly rises from the fires down below
Feeling cornered the anxiety builds
Lead with the jab to set up the right hook
Snipers hiding behind plastic shields
If he disagrees then they’ll burn the book
Seeing I’m unafraid of his threats
He retreats into shadows to avoid the light
Spiritual burden with heavy debts
Injected through the fangs of a serpent’s bite

Good day to you!!!
Love it that you posted this one.
I hope I understand correctly what you meant, and for that extra ‘listen’ I’ll be back.
A foreign language will start me doubting myself.
Anyway, to be continued…..
Kind regards, Gus
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Gus. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It’s quite alright, take your time, if you have any questions I’ll try to help my friend. Appreciate you.

This is a bit mind-blowing.
Each stanza carries my eyes gently from one line to the next.
Extraordinary piece. I’m inspired and impressed. x
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Rosie. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I’m always happy to inspire, and be inspired my friend. You’re an excellent writer yourself and have inspired me with your work. I’m impressed as well. Appreciate you.

This is great, Damian. Love the message: Stop fearing what controls you. Reclaim your power, but that doesn’t mean the damage it cost is gone. Most of us are walking around carrying the cost of something that was done to us, not something we chose. #Healingispower
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Kay. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Your analysis is pretty spot on and healing is powerful indeed. Therapy is one of the biggest reasons I write, well that and I love to be creative. But at the core of it all that’s what still drives me most. Appreciate you.

wowee dearest Damian this is powerful…I felt your anxiety and the venom in your bite ❤️
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Brenda. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Thank you for such a wonderful comment that really made my night. Appreciate you.

Man, that vault holds gems. Great piece.
Favorite line
“He calls my bluff about fearing death
With insults meant as a means to kill me slow”
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I love those lines as well, the vault has many layers indeed, but some are also incomplete or rough drafts, or will never see the light of day. lol. Appreciate you, cuz.

This smacks so hard of facing down the demons. It’s funny how bluffing can actually lead to the footing we need. There’s no retreat in this one. Just solid, bite me attitude…even as a bluff it carries the sting. The mistakes we make are lessons for farther down the road. It’s best not to forget their making, but their purpose is actually healing. If we let it. Powerful piece, my friend
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. The familiar sting always lingers beneath the surface, it’s a reminder to not forget the past but learn from it. Your analysis is spot on as usual, it must be the kindred spirt effect. I got the memo, I brought the hot chocolate to go with marshmallows, the bonfire awaits us. Appreciate you.

Sometimes its best to face em square on isn’t it .. but then I guess that’s where these fine words are coming from .. well there, and that seemingly bottomless vault you guard well and keep drawing from .. Write on brother D .. Neville 😎👍
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Neville. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Sometimes there isn’t a choice once you reach a certain point, but yes experience is often painful in its teachings. Plus eventually one gets tired of running eventually. Appreciate you.

Excellent write up. That last line sets the reader up perfectly to loop back to the beginning and read this again. The cycle to start this over again gels perfectly with the cycle of the struggle you writ about. Deep stuff and worth every read one gives it.
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Brandon. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Some of that looping cycle comes from many summers of songwriting. Appreciate you.

Next level shadow work, bro
This vibe resonates with me on a level unspoken

The worn path, the rising heat, the serpent’s bite. It all feels like the shape of an old struggle finally seen in full light.
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, CG. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Your commentary is so spot on, thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

We’ve all been bit by something in our past. Volunteering to carry the venom through life is never a good idea. Good one, Damian.
