I felt like lucky sevens
When I bought my first house
My little slice of heaven
For me and my spouse
A two car garage
And a yard thats immense
Filled with a floral collage
Bordering a white picket fence
An American flag extended
From our front porch
Viewing a landscape so splendid
Under the stars of the north
We had forested acres
With naturistic views
And such friendly neighbors
For neighborhood barbeques
We were comfortably living
The classic American dream
Nothing was missing
From this perfect life scene
But over time things evolved
There was a shift in the air
Our freedoms dissolved
Our neighbors no longer there
A fire was burning
In the nearing distance
The world stopped turning
Threatening our existence
The smoke was getting closer
But we kept our heads in the sand
Not worried about exposure
Of it threatening our land
But eventually it was too late
And we were forced to leave
Our house was on fire
And we couldn’t breathe
We tried escaping ahead
But our morals were broke
The American dream is dead
And our flag up in smoke

Powerfully penned, Mstrmnd. Another excellent write my friend. Appreciate you.

Thank you as always for taking the time to read and for commenting
Right now, I am in a massive dilemma myself with the ever increasing cost of add-ons to my mortgage. It has gone up 50% in just four years. This house is not worth what they charge me now. So, it may be time to go elsewhere sooner than expected.
Your write is obviously of a bigger picture, for all of us as a whole. The “dream” is being rocks through windows from so many directions. Peace of mind is scarce. Your frustration is loud, word by word.
Yeah..its absolutely frustrating.. nothing is affordable..my wife and I have focused on downsizing the past few years and cutting back the expenses where we can..but to your point u can’t cut back the mortgage or the rising utility bills or ins..and we are all drowning quickly..the rich are rapidly getting richer and there’s a huge gap between them and most of us..oir next step is to downsize our house.. but we are still months and months away from that as thats more complicated with moving and everything..but yes it feels like rocks through windows..sucks..thank you for commenting..and hopefully be there times ahead
I feel your frustrations through this piece and unfortunately I’m right there with you. Hopefully sooner rather than later everything works out for you and your family. Best wishes xx
Thank you for commenting..hopefully better times for all of us..need some good news and a future everyday ppl can look forward too..opportunity and hope are what inspires greatness..and we need to get that back
