Summary:
I will always see Halloween as beautiful, mystical, fun and sacred and innocent. This poem is for the young boy I used to be, for the children we all used to be and still are if only we remember so. After 8 years of writing it is finally finished. I think. Happy Halloween, my friends!

On Halloween our lane

travels to many a year ago

electricity it vanishes

and only the hearths and candles glow

Gaslights burn dim and wise

where vehicles no longer park

trees grow twice their size

beneath the moonlit dark

Sidewalks revamp themselves in brick

the leaf strewn road as well

on the corner lives a fickle witch

with a charm and a fortune to sell

On Halloween our lane

travels to many a year ago

Jack O’lanterns haunt the hollows

in the old oak and maple grove

The library’s bedighted tower

is where its cavorting ghosts are seen

some demonstrate their power

and roam free on All Hallows Eve

Cloaks fly out at the horned owl’s cry

we’ll be off to join the bonfire bash

they’ll serve hot cider and pumpkin pie

as we chant our wicked balderdash

On Halloween our lane

travels to many a year ago

the impish cats and spirited bats

prance their dance with the crows.
