it’s the story they’ve warned us about
since the beginning of time
you can be born rich
then die without a penny to your name
and just because you worked hard
doesn’t mean you can’t lose it all
you can swear you’re sound of mind
but don’t tell me
you wouldn’t drink the Kool-Aid
when promised the meaning of life
yup, it can all go up
with a flip of a dime
so I have to roll my eyes at the vain
looking down on the less fortunate
because one thing’s for sure
those looks will fade
as well as body and mind
and maybe a nice gesture today
will grant you a fortune tomorrow
and maybe a bad additude
will get you kicked in the nuts
but don’t build a house of papers next to a fire
then be surprised when it burns up
I’ve seen it with my own eyes
people who’ve planned out their whole lives
having it taken away one tragedy at a time
so feel blessed for your luxury
and don’t stress about the little things
cherish each moment
for it will pass before you know it
and know that
nothing is guaranteed

And you are right…Nothing is guaranteed in life. Powerful piece. Nice work.
Definitely. I wrote this a year or so ago after my uncle died. He was a man that worked all his life. Was someone that was financially stable, and overnight got dementia and lost everything. Didn’t even have a penny to his name when he died. Just made a lot of bad decisions and was stubborn when it came to preparing for tragedy.
Thanks for the read. Much appreciated.
Amen to this. Such a profound piece with a powerful message.
…I learned the hard way to take nothing for granted and cherish every day.
Can’t love this write enough 💕
We only get one shot for all we know so might as well do our best to enjoy each day of peace.

My pleasure
Brilliantly penned, Nick. This is an incredible write my friend, and all very true. To quote David Lee Roth: ” There’s not much distance between a pat on the back, and a kick in the pants!” Appreciate you.
