After the Storm

Summary:
Wrapping up a week at Destin, Florida. Got a lot of work done editing my upcoming Africa poetry collection. Today is the only day with bad weather... so I spent it writing about the storms.

The foamy surf is still warm
after this early May storm
offering me little good reason
in this pre-hurricane season

While I walk along the shore
needing less, yet wanting more
as I again stroll along…
forgotten words to an unwritten song

For the power of this moody sea
so often reminds me of me
reminds me of my mood swings
how even an unrung bell still rings

As I tally up all of this debris
that is piled up now for me to see
reminders of what might have been
from when I wore a different skin

Up above the skies finally do clear
while the clouds cry a final tear
for all that was once more lost

at last revealing the hidden cost

    1. Stormy in Mississippi too! I love storms. I have no idea why I like them, but I love the analogy you draw between yourself and the ‘moody’ sea… the aftermath of destructive power… the hint of resolution and ultimate clarity. We live in a constant flux. The shoreline is so telling.

    2. Perfection again… I also have this affinity to the sea myself… don’t know why… when I figure it out I will tell you… meanwhile please keep writing perfections again and again and again…
