Inking Ink 9 – an interview with Adelphina

Bookmark

Tonight I am interviewing Adelphina, a crossover from DUP. Please describe yourself for the viewers so that they can get a better sense of you. I, personally, find you very interesting.

I describe myself as a Latina who appreciates a good sense of humor even in the most inappropriate times. Life can be tough, so we have to remember it will pass and keep it in perspective. I’ve learned to embrace unexpected changes in life and to roll with the punches. If you can make me laugh in the middle of life’s craziness, then you are golden to me.

Q: Who is your favorite novelist?

Coleen Hoover is one of them. I read one of her books titled Slammed and decided to give poetry a try. It was about a forbidden love of a student and her poetry teacher. She wrote a few poems in the book, and it intrigued me. I thought I’d give it a try and started writing poetry.

Q: Is writing a passion or a joy?

For me writing is both a passion and joy. It can also be other things, like escape and therapy. There are so many reasons as people decide to pick up a pen. It gives us a sense of control in an uncontrollable moment or place. At least it does for me.

Q: What do you like to write?

Creative writing has so many outlets. Poetry is obviously one of my favorites. It lets me tackle different emotions in a few hours. Sometimes I will sit on a write for a couple of days. I’m spontaneous by nature and used to post immediately. Now I’ve learned patience and to hold off. A brilliant line might come the next day. No need to rush it.

Q: What is your kryptonite when writing?

Distractions are definitely my kryptonite. Constantly being interrupted makes me loose my flow. I love my two boys but they have been known to interrupt a great writing session for ridiculous reasons like a quick shoulder massage. Yes, I’m a mom who dotes on them and caves when asked. What can I say? I spoiled them. lol

Q: Do you believe in censorship?

I believe in censorship when it comes to age and subject matter. Once you are past a certain age you can decide what you like and don’t.

Q: Does a quantum leap from serendipity, to dark in writing, leave a bad taste, making one appear strange?

I don’t think so. We are complicated humans. It’s a natural instinct to do both for the sake of writing on a wide range of subjects. It’s how we learn to grow as writers.

Q: Have you had a seance and spoken to the dead…or would you?

Yes, I would in a heartbeat. I tried a Ouija board once at a party in high school. I’m not sure if my partner was pushing the pointer or not. One day I want to go to New Orleans to get my palm read! I think it’s interesting, and whatever is revealed, I’d take it with a grain of salt

Q: Does writing zap your energy?

As I’ve gotten older, it has been a little more challenging on my eyes. I work on a computer at work, then come home and write on another computer. It takes its toll.

Q: Do you own your words?

I own every single letter of my words. I take pride in it. Why bother writing if you don’t.

Q: Have your words ever come back to haunt you?

Not in writing, but in talking shit with friends and family, yes. lol A few things have come back to haunt me. Nothing crazy, but just beware of using the word never in conversation.

Q: How long have you posted on the internet?

The first time I ever had the courage to post online was on DUP. I’d say about 4 years ago.

Q: What are your feelings regarding AI in writing?

In Poetry, I don’t use AI. There is no need, and in poetry you make your own rules and language when you write. On larger projects I can see the benefit of it. For instance, I tend to jump out of third person a lot in my current book. I do use AI to keep me on track. I think it depends on how you use it. I would never be a writer that would ask for AI to create a book from scratch. I think when you do that you miss out on the magic of writing and getting to know your characters first before putting them on paper. I also use AI at work when it comes to taking notes in meetings. It’s a huge time saver.

Thank you, Adelpina
