Cancer:
That verminous dreg of death!
A mauler
who sucker-punches, spars,
and destroys
with body blows
its challenger’s ghostly form.
Even money—
unable to go the distance
with all its supremacy—
gets outwitted
and KO’d.
With undefeated form,
Cancer prevails far too often.
Life’s referee of remaining days
stands over another challenger
and vigorously counts to ten,
waving to end the match
with a unanimous decision,
marked by tears and death certificates.
But someday,
a vicious contender—
a procedure or vaccine—
with a devastating uppercut
will come along with a knockout
that will leave the crowd in a frenzy.

Superb work. Love the boxing metaphor.
Thank you, Thomas.
hello dearest Tim I hope they find a cure I cry everytime I see a St Judes comercial kids battling cancer my condolences on your family member 💕
Thanks very much, Crimsin.
Powerfully penned, Tim. Into the book it belongs! The boxing metaphor is clever, people fighting for their life are very familiar with pugilist philosophy. Because it is indeed a fight, and some defy the odds for a while, because they possess a fighters heart. Excellent work, so sorry for your loss. Appreciate you.
