    Jewel Tone Days

I have embarked upon my autumn era no longer flush with the lush beauty of youth I've mellowed... become more serene... at peace   don't be foolish  never mistake it for sedate I burn still ...inside... with the fires of Survival   as my vibrant shades begin to fade and others take...

    • I can identify with this being I’m turning 64 soon. Life is how you look at it. Your strength in this shows your positive view about yourself. That’s called wisdom. Great writing, Willow.

      • It took a lot of years and scars to arrive at this place. I imagine there will be more scars before I finish my journey. But I don’t mind the dents as long as I know I lived to the best of my ability. I’m rolling up on 58 myself and suddenly 60 doesn’t look that old anymore. Thank you, Tim

    • Ahh but the mind is a fearsomely powerful weapon we often use against ourselves. Thank you, Peter

    • I never thought I’d be one to age gracefully. When I was young I thought for sure I’d fight it tooth and claw. But here I am, looking backwards and smiling forward. I don’t know what the days will bring, but I know what the years have brought. I’ll face them with a cup of something hot and a determination to make the best of them. Thank you, my friend

    • Thank you, Thomas 😊

    • You know some people never grow up and feel that the other person is always the one that is wrong. This is definitely on point.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Some don’t wanna grow up that’s for sure. Appreciate you, cuz.

    • I had to chuckle reading the intro. I have a friend who used to say “Stop being younger than me, dammit!”

Reading through the poem I was struck by how powerful it is in its subtlety. You say so much without skirting closer than the edges, stirring thought and almost forcing eye contact with the subject. Apathetic, sadistic narcissist. That’s the person this speaks of…but those terms should be in all caps, I think. Another thought provoking, spot on piece, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I chuckled when J.J. said it, I expect those kind of comments from him as many summers as we go back. lol.

“You say so much without skirting closer than the edges, stirring thought and almost forcing eye contact with the subject.”

Those lines mean so much to me my friend, one of the kindest compliments I have ever gotten about my work. Thank you! It probably should be in all caps, but I was trying to use some restraint. lol. Appreciate you.

    • Such a relevant write… well done dear poet

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, S. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Nice to see you back again. Appreciate you.

    • Sometimes you just can’t understand the motives of people and why they do what they do…why they act the way they do. George Carlin said don’t give a shit about anything. At times, that’s good advice.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I agree with you, a lot of times I don’t understand the motives of some but a lot of times it’s also painfully obvious what those motives are. Carlin was right in many aspects about life, but it’s kinda on a person to person (situation to situation) basis when that advice works best or is a good thing. Something’s do require attention though. One must stay vigilant. Appreciate you.

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Brenda. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Empathy is important to morality and also it’s the guiding light of my observations of the world. It can be frustrating witnessing that there are some folks out there who don’t seem to have any empathy in them. So naturally as a writer I write about those kinda things. Appreciate you.

    • Well happy birthday then, Damian. You don’t look a day older than yesterday!
Your rhymes are on point, sir. The message obviously, too. But, shouldn’t you be writing about something epic from your birthday?! LOL. It’s a milestone every year, is it not?

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mark. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Thanks for the b-day wishes brother. Why didn’t I think of writing something epic for my birthday? I guess I’m slowing down a little. LOL. It is a milestone every year indeed. Thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

    • I feel every word of this.

Thank you so much for sharing.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, P. So glad you connected with the write my friend. You’re most welcome. Appreciate you.

    • Damian you write the theme of selling the soul for wealth with the perfect rhythm to carry the banner of your message with striking power and superb song writing. I love what you do with words.

      John

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, John. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Unfortunately it’s a reoccurring theme in a lot of my writes, I reckon it also has a lot to do with what I observe in the world. Thank you for the support. Appreciate you.

    • This is deeply inspiring, tempered with sagacious wisdom…making keen observations
without accusations. Using poetry as a crossbow is indeed your expertise, bro

      Much respect

      Naaj

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Naaj. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Brother, that comment was pure poetry and I’m honored to receive it. “Using poetry as a crossbow.” I dig that! Appreciate you.

    • Hello 👋 Damien this is really deep,
I unfortunately am living with someone like this who is constantly blaming me for everything and takes no responsibility for his actions.

      Thanks for sharing this.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Lizz. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Unfortunate indeed, you shouldn’t have to live like that, you’re welcome I hope your situation improves. Appreciate you.

    • Omg I got chills from this. I can see you on a podium reading this. It stirs the blood and makes one pay attention. Brava;))

      • I had me a moment here. Played the spoken word for my daughter and she said “Damn, mom! That’s perfect.” That was gold for me. Im too big a chicken to read in front of people, but I thank you, Fia

    • Mic “Fucking” Drop!!

      • I believe that might be the shortest comment you’ve ever left on my writing. 😂 And I’ll take it as the statement it is, my friend

    • First read this offline, we really missed reading you Lady. Tight piece

      • I’m back. Had to get my head right before I stepped back into the halls, but this is home. Thank you, ME

    • Community isn’t always…or often even…made of blood. It’s the souls who welcome each other no matter what they look like or how different they may be. Blood may be thicker than water, but toxic blood is lethal. I don’t believe in fitting in. I believe in filling the space destined only for you and standing side by side with others doing the same. Nobody else has the ability to be you. Or me. I’m glad you found support and compassion, Brenda. It’s very important 🧡
