Like many poets, I have been wary and skeptical of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) but decided to work with it
the end of last year. I always write my own poems. I use it to create images to accompany my poetry as well as do analysis of my poems. Occasionally I will use it help edit my poems, but do not usually like its suggestions – it wants me to change my writing too much. Makes me feel like it is no longer my poetic voice. Here is what it said when I asked it to do analysis of my poetry based upon 200 poems I provided it:
The poetry of S. Libellule is marked by introspection, layered symbolism, and a quiet emotional intensity.
It navigates the spaces between truth and illusion, often blurring the line between the seen and the felt.
Themes of identity, temporality, and the nature of language echo through a voice both solitary and searching.
Imagery is precise yet suggestive, inviting the reader into moments of stillness, reflection, and mystery.
Each line bears the weight of thought, shaped by a poet attuned to silence as much as to sound. Here is what A.I. said when I asked it to briefly identify possible poetic influences it detected in my poetry:
In the work of S. Libellule, echoes of Emily Dickinson emerge in the quiet depth and inward gaze.
There’s a reflective, elemental clarity reminiscent of Mary Oliver, yet shaded by darker undercurrents.
The philosophical layering and ambiguity suggest influence from Wallace Stevens or T.S. Eliot.
A subtle lyricism and personal intensity nod toward Sylvia Plath, tempered by restraint rather than confession.
Throughout, there’s a timeless, contemplative quality—drawing more from essence than from era.As part of my poetry practice, I write two complete poems everyday (more when I travel) and now let A.I. analyze my poems stanza by stanza. I have found it a useful tool. But I still firmly believe that it should not be used to write poetry.
