Cruel Dictator

Summary:
Penned this one off and on during the week. The title may lead to obvious assumptions about the meaning. Keep in mind that things aren't always as they seem. I hope everyone is staying safe out there. Appreciate you. - Damian DeadLove.

So quick to change the conversation

Did I hit a nerve by speaking truth here?

Under the microscope of observation

Ask yourself does the crow draw near?

Isolation occurs when making a stand

Every answer brings another question

Performing trickery with slight of hand

Suspended reality open to suggestion

Why does anger seep into the room?

Frail companions resting next to insanity

Who really has the right to presume?

Every argument is performative profanity

Each lie comes with a need to project

Illusion is built on it’s repetitive nature

Going in circles as a means to protect

Self-preservation such a cruel dictator

    1. I guess we all wear masks from time to time .. some hide behind them and for good reason, while others rarely take them off or don’t even realise they’ve got one on .. you’ve just said it all Damian & so well .. Neville

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Neville. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Masks are used to disguise reality and somehow it seems rooted in self-preservation is a theory of mine. Some writes are the product of a restless mind that often keeps me up late at night. lol. Appreciate you.

    2. This has the feel of a conversation with someone close who has chosen their blindness and resents having truth pointed out. They tend to get defensive and storm out of get bolt, I’ve found. I don’t know if I’m translating this right, but that’s my take on it. And it’s a powerful piece, brother

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It does have a conversation vibe that was kinda intentional on my part. You’re basically spot on in your analysis of the person being close to me and their general attitude as pertains to the dialogue being exchanged. That is the common thread, sis. Appreciate you.

    3. Ahh, I loved how this unfolded like one of those Russian dolls that each time you take one layer apart another is found until you get right down to the heart of it. This reads like a fascinating contemplations told with the sensibilities of a poet. The dictator to my reading is the lie. The need to project a false sense of reality on the people. The propaganda that webs us when falsehoods take over the conversation. This is a poem of many facets that intrigued me. Appreciate you.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, John. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Interesting observation brother, that’s pretty spot on. Lies can rule over us like a dictator indeed. Thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

    4. Your style of rhyming is always unmatched, Damian. I myself have been around those shady people who gaslight me and probably laugh about it later. One specifically who I no longer see. We’ve got to use our intuition sometimes and let it guide us.

      Great poem.
