Only the Weather of You

HomePoetryOnly the Weather of You

I dreamt you,
without your face,
only the weather of you.

Current moving through me,
low and humming,
my body lit
like a struck bell.

Arousal braided with exposure,
stripped bare,
yet untouched by danger.
Innocence sheltered,
held.

The memory returned
of the night
I could not stop wanting
to touch you,
to be taken by you.

My body still pulses
from those brief moments
when we brushed edges
of something holy.

That first kiss.
Not the polite meeting
of mouths,
but the one
where I woke
to my own hunger,
willing to disappear
inside you.

Tongues finally learning
their language,
I tasted
what my body
had been praying for.

You led me to the bed,
your hands knowing,
your mouth
God, your mouth,
lips and teeth
mapping every place
I could be unmade.

All of me,
until there.
The place
where breath breaks.
The only place you paused,
the only place you held restraint,
while I came undone.

Flesh burning
with revelation.

Erotic,
and sacred.
Indistinguishable.

We learned each other
like ritual
had always known.

That feeling overtook my dream,
and I knew.

Even without your gaze,
without your lips
shining with the taste of me,
I knew it was you.

I felt it.
