Rewriting Memory
Amidst the smoke and mirrors I now see clearer
Our paths were meant to cross, connect and intertwine
The image of what once far somehow seems nearer
In echoes and reflections of what left behind
But that was me back then as I remember when
I tried my best not to be noticed I’d even hide
And yet those with a keen eye saw me with my pen
Broken and mending while smiling on the outside
And on that particular night when we both locked eyes
The rhymes I shot lit up my sky like shooting stars
For she had glimpsed and seen right through my disguise
And years later I can write it in my memoirs
Funny how time steers through adolescent years
Wondering how quickly and swiftly it all went
Now I’m here recalling the day I didn’t disappear
With a little nostalgia but none of the torment
