All That is Autumn

I can hardly contain my excitement as I slip on my fall jacket, zip up my boots, and head out. The moment I step outside, I can smell the sweet scent of autumn leaves blowing all around me, some landing on the tip of my boots while others randomly fall here and there, and just about anywhere they could stick themselves.

I inhale the intoxicating fragrances of apple, pear, pumpkin and spice candles burning inside the apothecary shops; their doors are always open this time of year, a tradition New Yorkers, myself included, look forward to year after year as I venture through my daily walk.

Laughter and curiosity spill out onto the sidewalks, people mingling in the crisp air as footsteps brush past, the city comes alive in that quiet October way.

Holiday and autumn decorations are set out along windows and doorways of brownstones and storefronts, in hopes of catching a glance of those in-tune with the spirit world. Turning into Central Park, I am completely spellbound beneath a canopy of yellow, red and orange surrounding me.

I stop at Dunkin’ Donuts to grab a nice hot cup of the best coffee ever, “YUM!” I finish my coffee and tip my cup into a trash barrel then jump into a huge pile of fluffy autumn leaves seemingly waiting personally just for me. I lose myself completely; laying on my back I look up into the sky while making an angel with my arms, like we did when we were kids playing in the snow.

My body is surrounded by all that is Autumn.
Stars begin to twinkle as they peek out from their long day of slumber just waiting for their chance to sprawl across the night sky. And then, at that very moment in time I realize how lucky I am to be alive…

    1. This, to me, is a reflection of youth and a love for Autumn. New York in fall can be a playground for those that love the city. Especially when good friends are around.

This is an enjoyable story that brings out the senses. 🙂
