The Vulture

HomePoetryThe Vulture

Where are the ones
Who suffered through
Your flight of fancy
Swallowed whole
Into a fountain of lies

Hidden on the wings
A little tear
Inside a prayer
Waiting naked
In a dream that soon will die.

Shadows only follow
In a circle
Of the home
That you abandoned
Long ago inside your mind.

All the eyes upon you
Never knew
You would devour
Everything that gave
A vision to the blind.

And where is the road
You never traveled
Sinking slowly
Balanced on a path
That you never even crossed.

Deep inside your soul
There lies a vulture
Tearing through
The empty ruins
Of the innocence you lost.

    1. This is quite a spiritual and mystical piece.

It reveals the darker side of nature. Vultures are not cute, that’s for sure.

Some heaviness throughout, but very engaging to the reader.

      I quietly enjoyed this. x

    2. hello dearest poet to me this reads like a woman or a man who didn’t take a chance on their love even though they weren’t happy in their situation I really felt this one ❤️

      • I am thankful for your interpretation. In truth, I am not sure what it’s about myself. It could mean so many things as to what I was experiencing at that time. Maybe you are on to something in my subconscious. This just came to me within 5 minutes and I quickly wrote it down. When it was over I just stared at it wondering where in the world it came from. Thank you for reading it.

    3. Vultures get a negative reputation but they actually clean the bones of rotting flesh. This piece makes my mind spin with possibility. Who is the vulture? Who is rotting? There’s layers in this and I love me some layers!

      • This piece is actually maybe 10 years old. Been sitting in my notebook. I mentioned above it took me 5 or 10 minutes to write and when it was over I was baffled as to where it came from. Maybe I had a few things on my mind that night. That would explain the layers. Glad you like them!
