It’s been raining quite a bit of late,
and the things that breed in brackish water
have taken flight.
How they find me is a mystery,
perhaps some subtle gas I exude.
In any case, to them I’m nothing
more than tasty food.
They reconnoitre the area,
and if their high-pitched whine goes ignored,
they land on uncovered flesh,
pierce skin with needle mouths,
and draw blood.
In exchange, they leave an itch
or in some cases, fevers of manifold sorts.
I could avoid their bites with repellent,
or cover up, or retreat indoors,
But then I wouldn’t have written this.

Cleverly penned, Peter. Relatable write my friend. I swear they’re drawn to me as well, like they just single me out. Nicely done. Appreciate you.
Damian
I felt itchy/uncomfortable while reading this. “Needle mouths” is perfect.
I’ve always wondered how creatures like those see the world… anyway.. I guess if we dont feel the pain we can understand the universe.
Nicely done, Peter. I hate those little mfers!
