Day 67. In the middle of the night, I was awakened by strange noises. It sounded like someone was quietly but persistently rustling on a metal surface. Not knocking or grinding, but rustling like crumpled paper. The first thing I did was check the pressure in the compartment. All the readings on the monitor were stable, which meant there was no leak. There was nothing to fear.

But a second possibility suddenly occurred to me, one that frightened me even more than a possible depressurization. Could someone else’s cryocapsule have failed? I grab a flashlight and walk around the entire compartment, carefully peering into the rows of translucent “coffins.” Everything seems to be in order. Everything is working. Everyone is lying peacefully in stasis.

Probably, I just dreamed it. But my imagination still paints a picture of a person who suddenly woke up and is scratching the jammed lid from the inside. What is overwhelming him? Fear. Anger. Despair. How familiar all these feelings are to me. I fall asleep with difficulty.
