I jut out from the long black seam
a shiny thing, unlike any other in the shaft.
Just a speck of brightness,
a stark contrast
in the endless darkness.
I know I’m different.
Always have been.
The black seam dominates everything down here
with its drab, dour, depressing weight.
I, the shiny thing,
formed from the same carbon atoms as the coal,
configured differently
I am a diamond.

Yes, you are a diamond. I like how you put this together to show that you are.
Beautifully penned, Peter. Excellent write my friend. A diamond in the rough so to speak kinda vibe. Appreciate you.
