I think we all have forgotten
That our true New Year is not when the ball drops

Over the years, I’ve met and learned
from so many people.
Some lessons were taught
without me signing up for it
When I ask people
Do you celebrate your birthday
I got the same answer
It is just another day
Not my day
It’s important that I remember to breathe
It is important that I remember to believe
And it is important to see what no one else can see
So, on my birthday
I wish
I wish for you to remember it is not just another day
You have gotten a chance to
Open your eyes
smile
cry
laugh
rage
speak
think
thank
Love
And so many other things
We were put here for a reason
An individual reason
That’s what I sit here and think about
As I blow out this candle for another year.

I used to be in the category of ignoring my birthday, but a beautiful friend on Hawaii taught me to celebrate the day of ‘another time around the sun‘ as they call it there. ANd since then I do, celebrate it in a small way.
So I’ll try and be present in time next year!
