Summary:
By the late 17th century, the buccaneers of Tortuga had largely abandoned privateering and piracy, and turned to other trades.

Tortuga

a quatern

We’ll make Tortuga by tonight
If wind this fair shall carry on
The pirates’ refuge held by might
Against the crown’s own lackeyed pawns

The crew will mutiny unless
We’ll make Tortuga by tonight
Our raid was curs’d wit’ nay success
Jamaica Sloop ran from our fight

No prey since seen, a long fortnight
Wit’ rations slim, we’re headin’ home
We’ll make Tortuga by tonight
And drink our fill by sand and foam

This style o’ life be endin’ soon
All buccaneers now share me plight
On rum, I’ll spend me last doubloon
We’ll make Tortuga by tonight
