Safari of Self

Summary:
Another poem from my upcoming poetry collection "Inks of Africa." I have been on three expeditions to Africa for a little over two months. This book will be a blend of poetry and photography of my trips. There is a magic in this place that I felt from the moment my feet touched the ground. Feelings stirred down through the years.

Taking the old me off of the shelf,
I pursued a new safari of self,
headed deep into the thick brush,
listening closely to its eternal hush.

In the hope to finally then find
how to see beyond this blind,
see beyond what held me back,
fulfill this fulfillment I did lack.

Letting my life now go astray,
yet still in search of a better way,
I crossed golden savannah plains
beneath gentle sub-Saharan rains.

Hearing the lone trumpeting call,
how Elephant reminds us all
of the brevity of all our days,
but the eternity in all our ways.

As I found more than peace of mind
within this solitary quest to find
the hidden mysteries of my soul,
how to make all of these pieces whole.
