The cavemen kept a different clock,
They lived by sun and moon.
They slept when darkness filled the sky,
And woke again too soon.
There was a rhythm in their days,
They did just what they need
To hunt, to love, to rest, to live,
To shit, to fuck, to feed.
(Not always in that order.)
The sun and moon once ruled the hours,
Now alarms proclaim the morn.
The weary rise to hated work,
Their faces pale, forlorn.
Their bosses tell them when to start,
And when the day must end.
They trudge back home from thankless toil,
With no spare time to spend.
Our ancestors took what they must,
And left the rest to grow
We now shop consumed by want,
Let corporate profits flow.
The wealth once born of honest hands
Returned by deft deceit,
To those who own the bloody clocks
Their victory complete.

This reminds me of Frank Zappa and George Carlin quotes:
Zappa: As long as you’re just smart enough to do a job and just dumb enough to swallow what they feed you, you’re gonna be alright.
Carlin: they prefer “obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork.”
Great rhymes in this Peter.
Thanks Tim….good old Zappa
