Tonight, I am interviewing, Drieks, who I find to be an accomplished artist who has reached the banks of The Avalon. Her dark side amazes me, and I am no stranger to the world of psychological horror. I cut my teeth on Poe and Drieks drives nails into one’s psyche.
Question 1: Who is your favorite novelist or poet?
Drieks : My favorite novelist it probably Stephen King because of his unique writing. Especially in his earliest work. The structuring in ’Carrie’ for example is so captivating to me.
Question 2: Do you write splatter or psychological dark?
Drieks : Definitely more psychological dark. I wrote some gory stuff before, but I either never posted it or I forgot about it. Not my cup of tea, I guess. I love the psychological side, be it dark or not, of any subject really.
Question 3: Is your pen or laptop haunted when you write?
Drieks : At times, it sure feels like it is. Especially when I write something that doesn’t quite work out well enough in my opinion. I then delete everything I wrote, and when I tend to write similar to before, I delete it again. Over and over until something new flows out and fits.
Question 4: Does the dark stick to your ribs emotionally when writing Dark?
Drieks : Sure. Whenever I write about real life events, it sticks like glue. When I wrote ’Sweet release’, I knew I had to get it just right. It’s about a terrible event of abuse that happened to a friend of mine. It’s probably the piece I spent the most time on.
Question 5: What is your view on censorship in movies or prose?
Drieks : I despise censorship. Where I live, censorship was nearly non-existent for most of my life. Over the last few years, I see it pop up left and right. People are too afraid of the natural and thus themselves.
Question 6: When does erotica become pornography, in your view?
Drieks : I guess when sexual acts are uncensored and described in great detail. That being said, I never write nor read erotica. Again, not my cup of tea.
Question 7: How long have you been writing online?
Drieks : I started posting online on DUP back in 2019. I never wrote a single piece before that time. I was more into creating music before that. Right now, I guess I’m doing sort of a combination of the two. Using AI to create music to my lyrics has been a lot of fun. I’ve tried recording my own instruments for a while but lacking proper equipment and resources quickly shut that down for me. When Mary (Adira on SR) showed me how to create music to my lyrics using AI, I quickly fell in love with it. Thanks again Mary!
Question 8: Would success spoil you, or be an albatross?
Drieks : Neither I think. I’m a down-to-earth person and don’t get overly excited or restricted by much. That said, who knows how anyone would react to the unknown?
Question 9: Is there a place for AI, in writing a memoir?
Drieks : For a memoir? Logically speaking, no. Anything personal shouldn’t have place for an AI model that consists of experiences and knowledge of billions of other people.
Question 10: Do you like collaboration?
Drieks : I really do. I haven’t done many of them but i’m always so curious of what can come out of them. It also sparks creativity and I learn a lot from it. Since my native language isn’t English, i’m always happy to learn from a good collab.
Question 11: Can one “kill the goose”, by rushing the pen to finish?
Drieks : Absolutely. I have written many (unreleased) pieces that i look back at and realize that’s precisely why i didn’t release them. On the other hand, I don’t like putting a lot of time into a piece. I want it to flow out naturally (don’t we all?). As hard as that can be at times. I guess the goose can get killed by a double edged sword.
Thank you Drieks and look forward to reading more of you.
