girl, you been sitting on that barstool
but you ain’t drinking
you running or thinking?
cuz I know the look in those eyes
stare into the darkness they can’t hide
every night
what’s on your mind?
I’ve been on the outside looking in
only my past knows where I’ve been
while these scars of mine spit obscenities at me
and my heart cries into this glass I can’t seem to drink
yeah, it’s the silence that kills
but only they hear it
inside we’re screaming…crying…slowly dying
secrets we’re forced to keep quiet
or watch their uncomfortable eyes
I hear what you’re saying
Another soul who knows…
the island I’ve been on for so long
how could it be?
lost at sea, that was me
until I washed ashore bloodied and sore
made a home alone
I’ve been wandering these roads
till blood filled my shoes
watching strangers evade my gaze
because different might be contagious
so I learned to survive on my own
who knew there was a you?
I move about in fits and starts
Holes in my soul, scars on my flesh and heart
Stay quiet, don’t name, be soft, play the game
Until I can’t breathe or shake this shame
it’s like they dug our graves
and expect we’ll play dead
they don’t even understand the damage they left
just think we’ll forgive and forget
but every day is a resurrection
until it isn’t
remain silent – I can’t
stay in the corner – that’s not me anymore
if the meek inherit the earth, what about us?
I’ve screamed bloody hell to get what I need
who heard me, who helped me?
nobody but me, I know you feel me
I don’t know about you
but I’m defiant
yeah, girl
no more silence!
fists in the air
I’m a Survivor!

Perhaps! The best poem that I have read on Stars. I am not very good with comments, but this one grabbed my soul, Lady! This one deserves an award.
Al
PS. Keep in touch.
Mary and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This was an expression long in the building and much in need of voice.
Powerhouse, both of you are amazing women.
Thank you so much, Thomas. We greatly appreciate you
Really love this, the two of you simply rock Ladies
We needed to give this one its moment. Thank you so much on behalf of both of us
Powerfully penned, Willow & Mary. I love the guitar riff in this, and have got to ask what was that? A cello or violin at the beginning and end with a distorted effect on it. Whoever made that call, that was pretty cool. Nice collaboration you two. Appreciate you, both.
Damian
That was indeed a cello! That was my call. Cello has the same deep gut effect as bass…which is my obsession. Mary digs violin more. But I’m rubbing off on her. 😉 We poured ourselves into this one. Thank you so much, my friend
This is one inspirational powerhouse of a collab
Take a bow, ladies.
Ya’ll have definitely outdone yourselves
Much respect
Naaj
Thank you so much, Naaj. This was a labor of love and a reignition for us both. I’ll pass along your words to Mary 😊
