Forest Pulse

HomePoetryForest Pulse

I wandered through a forest,
sunlight pouring through the canopy like molten gold,
shadows drifting over moss-carpeted ground.

Ferns unfurled like emerald flames,
flowers opened in silent bursts of color,
a single pulse in time with the wind

A stream whispered over smooth stones,
its silver song weaving through the trees;
birds threading music through shafts of light,
the air thick with earth, rain,
and hidden blossoms –
a forest alive with quiet magic.

I climbed the rising ground of the hill,
brushing against wildflowers and roots,
when at my feet I saw it –

a pulse of green fire,
a creature born of the wood.
It followed softly,
a heartbeat at my heels.
I cupped it in my hands;
it unfurled into a woodling.
The forest held its breath.

And there, on a low branch,
a green mango gleamed
ripe and sweet.
I fed it to the woodling,
and tasted sweetness –
the forest’s pulse flowing through me.

As it drank, strength spread through my hands,
through my veins,
filling the woods with quiet, radiant energy.
I called it Pulsar –
the heartbeat of the forest.

Where my heart’s voices;
poems, dreams, memories,
tangle together, safe but untamed.

Even what once seemed unripe
has turned to sweetness.

I am its keeper,
but in its fierce, luminous way,
it keeps me.
It leads me inward,
until the forest’s heart
and mine
are one –
a single pulse
threading light through shadow.

      • Tim, Thank you! I’m really delighted to hear that the imagery resonated with you and made the forest feel alive.

        I especially appreciate you pointing out the line about the ferns. The emerald was so stunning and vivid in the dream, and it’s a huge relief to know I managed to capture that vision with words.

      • Hi Adelphina. Thank you so much! I really appreciate you saying that. Since the poem actually came from a dream, I was trying to capture that feeling of a vivid, hyper-real vision. I can absolutely see the connection to anime. It has that ability to make color and dreams feel so alive! I’m glad you enjoyed the read.
