I have no name—at least not yet,
But Mama knows I am “go,” “ready,” “set.”
I’m stripes and wiggles, hooves and squeals,
Still learning how to trust my heels.
I zig, I zag, I loop, I dash,
I chase the wind, then trip and crash.
A tuft of tail, a gleeful snort,
The whole world is my homecourt.
The grass is tall, the valley wide,
There’s so much sky I haven’t tried!
The lions nap (I hope they do…)
But Mama says, “Stay close—stay true.”
I prance, I bounce, I kick up dust,
Galloping simply because I must.
My legs are long, but not yet wise—
Where I end up, always a surprise.
An oxpecker upon my back—
He hopes I’m stripey zebra snack!
But I don’t mind—I’ve got no plan,
I’m simply becoming who I am.
So zig with me, and zag again,
Running reckless now and then.
This life is stripes, and joy, and speed—
Just call me Zigzag, the only name I need.
Oh my gosh, I need this. So cute and fun!
Beautifully penned, LDF. Fantastic read my friend. Appreciate you.
