The street light buzzes day into night
yesterdays stench lingers in the summer air
wrinkles on my face from many days gone by
I say goodnight to Kelly Jo as she flips her sign to closed
Gailan holding onto the hope tomorrow may bring
no good answer for what comes next
still got fight left in us so we battle on
Theron gives me a wave and a smile
walk into Benny’s he pours me a malbec
Rob at the end of the bar calls me a snob
raises his glass rings out an old Irish toast
the pet store closed so did the grain elevator
got a grant for economic development
gonna use it for parking lot pavement
the guy from the state said
“there’s nothing much we can do”
got to give you credit though
you’ve got some big stones
thought to myself
if only they were made of gold
in this town of dust and bones

Perfect title for this. It’s like an old lost town, battling for survival. I’m sure it’s a real place, you portray it as so.
The spread of rural decay. It was well earned
Thank you for reading. Have a splendid day wherever your at on the bean.
