I was wandering through a forest
of skeletal trees and the misty vagueness of life
when the flamelight of the candle in my hand
was overmatched by the dawning sun
that has illuminated a once dark world.
As if my heart’s compass had been focused
on some terrible doom – which I became
conscious of when my wounds appeared
on the blood-red horizon, spilling onto my world.
Wounds so deeply crimson, the gore’s present.
As if my eyes weren’t blind to the dark –
focused on some ghostly shapes
that I had misinterpreted to be real.
I saw a destination through the dark
and I have been bolting for it since childhood.
But now the daybreak of my life has come!
The blanket of cold darkness lifts off
and I’m bathed in this new light!
So fresh and new – life can become
something more – something beautiful!
