“Purple Rain” by Prince was originally written as a Country music song and was intended to be a (duet) collaboration with Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks. I find that fascinating!
perspective…
often relative to roads of life’s travel
some smoothly paved
while others of a bumpy dusty gravel
vigorously…
motivated by an energetic adventure
a young man
ready to traverse highways obscure
doddering…
comfort enough, a long life has given
an old man
in the purple rain, no longer driven
enigmatic…
is the passage of time upon our soles
spiritually worn
for posterity, a revered melody extols
somewhere…
along sentient highways and byways
imperceptible change occurs
only realized if pondering of past days
ageless…
are the radio tunes we travel by
stretching from 1972
in the sunshine and the purple rain
Beautifully penned, Angel. Great spill my friend. Love your music knowledge, did you know that Stevie Nicks was originally attended to sing “These Dreams.” She passed on the song and it ended up being a hit for the band, Heart. With Nancy Wilson doing the vocal, instead of Ann. Great songs you mentioned here for inspiration. Appreciate you.

“These Dreams” was also Heart’s first #1 hit. It is from their 1985 self titled album “Heart”. I still have the CD from way back when. There were a few other hits from that album as well. Damian, thanks for taking the time to read and comment.
“Looks That Kill” came off that album. Great record. Appreciate you.

Great poetry and music information… I didn’t know that before …. Nice
Thanks for commenting. It is fascinating to learn of some unusual fact during the process of writing a poem. Neither did I know.

That’s the first word that came to mind. Doddering? I’m not so sure I like that word. It’s your word, I won’t take that away from you, but I’m glad to see that you added comfort to go along with it.
I enjoy when you post, Angel.
Yes, that was a tough word of choice. I wanted there to exist a wide chasm between the word I choose and the word “vigorously”, relative to the passage of time. Each day of our lives passes unto the next day with negligible deference than even the day before. However, a day eventually comes that you acknowledge; you are not the same person you was so long ago. Maybe, we’re still young of heart and mind; yet our bodies tell us otherwise…we adapt. The phrase “comfort enough” softens the reality of growing old.
Of curiosity, I researched Prince’s explanation of purple rain; it pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love. The explanation of the phrase purple rain by Dewey Bunnell in the America song “Ventura Highway” is that it has no specific meaning attached to it. However, when I listen to the words of the song; I can’t help but get a sense that the older gentleman is content with where he is in life. The purple rain (a lack of youthful motivation) in old age is an acknowledgment of the aging process. Whether “the end of the world” or being someone of old age; the phrase “purple rain” brings with it a sense that nothing last forever. Maybe, my thought process is a bit of a stretch here. However, that is my approach most times when I write.
Ooh, thank you so much for explaining!
