Every thought I have of us
Ends up coming back at me
When you look at me
Because I’ve said
What I promised myself
I wouldn’t say out loud
But loneliness
Silence
The need to be seen and heard
Loved and held
Propels me
In directions I told myself
I wouldn’t go again
As I’m screaming again
This heart of mine
Has turned on a dime
So many times
Every thought I’ve ever had of us
About you, me
So many things
Haunts me
Ends up coming back at me
When you look at me
How many times are we
Going to do this?
The need to be seen and heard
Loved and held
Propels me
In directions I told myself
I wouldn’t go again
As I’m screaming again
This heart of mine
Has turned on a dime
So many times
Every thought I’ve ever had of us
About you, me
So many things
Haunts me
Ends up coming back at me
When you look at me
How many times are we
Going to do this?
Lovely, poem. Melancholy, fragile, sad, loneliness. A somber write Adira. Excellent!
I get in those moods. Better to get it out on paper, don’t you think?
Thank you, Keith
Love the metaphorical imagery of this piece. You can feel the vulnerability and frustration. It’s another battle between emotion and intellect. Emotion always seems to win.
That’s usually the case. My wise mind lags behind, sadly. But it makes for good song material I guess.
Thank you, kitten.
Those emotions haunt us often in the twilight hours and at dawn. The need to be held and loved it a universal human need that your poem illustrates with beautiful sadness.
