Romance

I am sitting here trying to figure out how I would romance you, with my words. I have read all levels of romance, yet the concept eludes me. Is it a gift to draw you in? I think it must be. When I think of romance, only one scene comes to mind.

He came to me in a whisper. Not a molecule was out of place, to warn me that someone was there. I opened my eyes, and I could not focus on his face. But he gave off the aura of peace.  I tried to rise from my bed and was halted by a perfect soft pink rose. Each petal held a drop of rain as if it were a diamond it had acquired from the sky.

Taking the rose from his hand, my fingers touched his skin. It sent a slight tingle through me. I took a deep breath and tried to focus on my mystery guest. He sat next to me on the bed and the light from the moon illuminated his features only on one side of his face. The other half was still in shadow.

I parted my lips to speak, and the words were halted by a single movement. He places one solitary finger upon my lips. My heart stammered in its confined space and air was more an enemy than a necessity. It seemed to have thickened in less than a millisecond.

He leaned in close, and I could see the shadow of stubble that was emerging through his skin. Refusing to be denied entrance to the world. Closer and closer he moved until I felt his breath on my lips. As he breathed out, I breathed in, inhaling every breath. I swallowed the non-existent liquid in my mouth trying to gain some semblance of control. His lips touched mine, so softly that I was not sure it ever happened.

He parted his lips and slowly moved over mine.  His tongue gained the courage to explore my mouth. He took so much care in his exploration, that I felt as if I was the only person in his world. The kiss held pent-up longing that wanted to escape. I wanted to give it a reprieve from its exile.

Suddenly he withdrew, taking with him the very essence of me. With only a kiss. I laid back and closed my eyes, holding the flower close to my heart.

In the future I will take this and put it in a story, but for now. This is all I have.
